Measurement Equipment

 

The following measurement equipment and software is used when designing the AudioExcite loudspeakers:

Stationary equipment:

 

  • Desktop PC running Windows 7
  • Sound-card – M-Audio Audiophile 24/96 (ASIO drivers)
  • Microphone pre-amp – Berhinger Xenyx 802
  • Measurement microphone – Eartworks DM30 (calibrated)
  • Impedance & T/S parameters – Smith & Larson Audio WT2 woofer tester and Dayton WT3 woofer tester
  • Capable of measurements up to 48kHz

Mobile equipment:

 

  • LaptopPC running Windows 7
  • Sound-card – M-Audio Transit USB (ASIO drivers)
  • Microphone pre-amp – ibf-acoustic MP1-r
  • Measurement microphone  – ibf-acoustic EMM-8cal (calibrated)
  • Impedance & T/S parameters – Smith & Larson Audio WT2 woofer tester and Dayton WT3 woofer tester
  • Capable of measurements up to 22kHz

Software:

 

  • Loudspeaker design – LspCAD 6.0 Pro
  • Frequency measurement – HolmImpulse (free software)
  • Frequency & distortion measurement – Arta 1.7.0
  • Room measurements – REW v5.0

Active loudspeaker equipment and software:

 

  • Loudspeaker driver & room measurements, room correction, EQ and active cross-over – DEQX HDP-3  v2.70 (when using active loudspeakers)

Older equipment not frequently used:

 

  • Desktop PC running Win95 and Clio 4.55 software
  • SoundEasy loudspeaker design software
  • CALSOD 3.10

Measurement methods:

 

All loudspeaker drivers are frequency measured on real actual loudspeaker baffles. No IEC baffles are used for the time being. In the measurements section for each driver unit it clearly states which baffle dimensions is used, when measured. Loudspeaker driver units are impedance measured, both in free air and in real loudspeaker enclosures.
