{"id":1773,"date":"2012-03-13T12:34:25","date_gmt":"2012-03-13T12:34:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.audioexcite.com\/?p=1773"},"modified":"2012-03-13T13:06:41","modified_gmt":"2012-03-13T13:06:41","slug":"sequence-two-%e2%80%93-monitor-construction-update","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.audioexcite.com\/?p=1773","title":{"rendered":"Sequence Two \u2013 Monitor Construction Update!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve built the two prototype cross-overs described in my last post and I&#8217;ve started the listening evaluation of the two.<\/p>\n<p>Before I describe my findings from the listening tests, I thought I should describe some cross-over simulations I\u2019ve done for the two prototypes.<\/p>\n<p>Both of the below simulations shows the frequency response optimized for max linearity at the 15deg off-axis measurement. The frequency response is very linear and smooth. The phase tracking between the individual driver units is great. The frequency response is also here very linear and smooth. The phase tracking between the individual driver units is even greater. The blue response is the tilted baffle version and the red is the \u201cladder delay network\u201d version.<\/p>\n<p>The control measurement confirms the simulated ones and the difference between the two filter options is very small. The main difference is that the \u201cladder delay network\u201d version have +1dB output at 4kHz.<\/p>\n<p>The suck-out centered at 1250Hz is some sort of cone edge resonance for the mid-woofer and it doesn\u2019t look nice in measurements, but doesn\u2019t hurt sonically.<\/p>\n<p>The same goes for the tweeters rising frequency response from 15kHz and up. It may not look nice in measurements, but doesn\u2019t hurt the performance of the treble.<\/p>\n<p>The million dollar question is\u2026\u2026.
